Well, it's been a while since we last posted... This Friday (5/12) was Gary and Christine's last Bible Study with us before they and Kyson and David move to serve at another ministry at our church. We had a delicious potluck dinner and Gary gave his final Mark Bible Study with us on the question Jesus asks of all of us: "Who Do You Say I Am?" Afterwards, we had awesome dessert and a time of reminiscing fond memories and what we're thankful for.
This past Friday after Bible study we did pumpkin carving! People made Zombie Bob, Mickey Mouse, Lego Guy, Storm Trooper, and other designs! We also roasted the pumpkin seeds and had pumpkin pies together. Afterwards we lit up the lanterns and turned off all the lights. It was a lot of fun!
We had our first Bible Study of the quarter at ARC Meeting Room 1. After a delicious dinner, we played a short icebreaker game called "I have never..." to learn more about one another's life experiences (or lack of). We learned facts like some people have never been to the zoo, never worn contact lenses, or rode the train in their home country.
For this fall quarter, we will be going through the Gospel of Mark, one of the books in the New Testament of the Bible. Gary gave a short message on the first 10 verses on the historical person of John the Baptist as well as Jesus.
After the Bible Study, we had some dessert and a fun time playing a group game called Fishbowl. Some people are very creative.... Below is one of the rounds of Fishbowl in which people you have to guess the answer from the single sound the person makes. I'll let you decide how people figured out the correct word...
Today (Saturday), in the evening, some of us took advantage of the nice weather by enjoying a potluck dinner and sports time in the nearby Willowcreek park.
Hope you can join us next time! :)
This past Saturday we enjoyed a DIM SUM lunch in Sacramento. What exactly is DIM SUM? It is a meal of variety of small Cantonese-style brunch dishes. So yummy! Join us next time and you will see what I mean.
After lunch we headed over to Old Sacramento. There we tried their freshly baked donut holes (SO GOOD!), checked out some antique boutiques, and we found these interesting emoji sunglasses!
There will be many more trips and outings to come in the future! Hope you can join us then.
Yesterday, some of us went to explore Downtown Davis for some dinner! We ended up enjoying some good ol' fashioned American Pizza at Blaze's.
There will be more opportunities in the future to meet new friends and explore other restaurants in Davis! Hope you can join us next time!
Also, our IGSM Welcome Night is coming up TOMORROW (9/16)!!! Please come check out what we're all about!
We are out at the Memorial Union tables this week! Please stop by our table and say hi. You can also represent your country by placing a pin on your home city to let us know where you are from! Hope to meet you in person!
This past Friday was the last Life Group for many of our members who will be returning to their home countries. It was a sweet year with a lot of fond memories of spending Friday nights cooking together, sharing a meal, and studying the Bible. We will miss those who will leave, but we hope that those who return home will continue to seek the truth.
We had a farewell for Albert as he returns back to China to finish up his research. Although the time together was short, we were able to share and celebrate many fond memories! We had a delicious potluck and time of sharing some encouraging verses, even from overseas as the Halim family skyped in! We'll miss you, and hope to see you again soon!
For the summer, Gary/Christine's and Mike/Karen's Life Groups will be combined and will meet at Mike and Karen's home. We start the night by cooking delicious dinner altogether! Then we have dinner and study a passage from the book of Acts in the Bible. It's been a lot of fun; hope you can join us and see what it's like!
Come and see what a Friday night is like!
Last week we took a look at what a typical Life Group looks like at Mike and Karen's home. Now this week we'll see what happens at Gary and Christine's group!
After dinner, Gary leads the group in studying through one of the books of the Bible called John. They learn about who Jesus is and what he's like.
After Bible Study, people stay for a fun time of board games and activities. Christine and the girls prepare some nice (healthy!) dessert, and then play some board games together. There are a lot of different types of games, so you can always learn how to play something new each week!
Sounds cool? Hope you can join us this week!
We are an international graduate student group at the UC Davis campus. We love to study about God, who Jesus is, and what the Bible has to say about our lives. We go through the up's and down's of life together and have a lot of fun, too! See what we've been up to lately here at our blog.
